OUR FUTURE

Kimberly's dedication to serving the families in FCPS is part of why she has been involved in so many aspects of our county, pushing our school, county, and state leaders to improve services for our students.

The newly active Collective Bargaining legislation is the focus of much of the work in nearly all our local associations. Working with our VEA and NEA staff, locals are moving forward with this challenge. Kimberly has worked with the FEA leadership, NEA/VEA/FEA staff, and our members to position itself for a strong Collective Bargaining opportunity. In addition to the work in our schools, Kimberly was an appointee to the Human Services Council advising the Board of Supervisors on items such as healthcare, housing, and food insecurity in our county. Kimberly has also served on the joint School Board and Board of Supervisors Successful Children and Youth Policy Team (SCYPT), working on issues such as community schools, increased pre-k opportunities, and disrupting the "school-to-prison pipeline." She understands the needs facing students and families in our communities. We always talk about how our working conditions are our students' learning conditions. This is what will drive necessary changes in our public schools as we write strong contracts that include items such as community schools and improved mental health supports, in addition to better wages, retirement, and healthcare.

As VEA Vice President Kimberly will assist the VEA President with all aspects of this work, to partner with other organizations in an effort to align our school systems and school board policies around our values - inclusion and protection of the dignity of all students and staff.

Positive change for our staff and students is what is driving her to expand the focus of her work, to help improve public education in Virginia for all of us through Collective Bargaining.
